Hi,

Recently explorer has been crashing a lot on me. I do something that requires a lot of memory or CPU and after about 3 seconds the taskbar and icons disappear and explorer comes back with all the windows closed. I thought that it must be a program I am running, or simply the large drain on the memory from running a lot of programs at once so I closed them all down. Then I tried transfering several avi files again to another partition and explorer crashed again.

This crash happens several times a day and is pretty annoying. Perhaps there is a conflicting program and it is still running in the background, or is still in memory after I have closed it.

Anyways what would a common problem be that causes this?

What do you people say?

Malu: XP crashes can be caused by;

1. sound card with Aureal 8820 chipset.

2. themes.
disable themes across the computer by turning off the Themes service.
disable themes in the affected programs by calling SetThemeAppProperties.

3. Hotfix Q317277. if found in Add and Remove Programs in Control Panel, remove it.

4. Update Q323255, on the other hand, will help stop system crashes...make sure you have it.

5. scan for adware, spyware and viruses.

6. update your sound and video drivers.

7. faulty RAM. download and run MemTest86 from:

8. a computer will crash if the processor overheats.
make sure the CPU fans are working and your computer case has adequate ventilation.

9. power supply...upgrade to a 350w or 400w power supply.

10. use an Anti-Crash program available on a 20 times trial at:

I checked the Windows updates and updated Q323255.

I also turned off windowblinds.

Now i'm going to keep running the computer for a couple days and see if the problem persists.

Also to make clear what my problem is:
explorer.exe crashes during file transfers or when loading a video.

(and I doubt it is a memory problem (or hardware problem) because the computer runs the system stability test prime95 with no problems)
