I have a very annoying problem I can't fix. I get a windows explorer window opening everytime I boot. (C:\windows\system32).
I removed every item from startup using msconfig, and tried running in diagnostic mode in msconfig, but still no fix.
I have read countless help files talking about it's something in startup, but there is no items in the currentverion/run in both local machine, and local user in the registry.
I have tried cleaning the registry with various programs, and even downloaded a vb script that is supposed to fix it.
I am running checkdisk right now as a last resort, but I need more ideas.
Thanks

Richard, Go thru the links/threads at the link below where you'll find just about every possible solution.
System 32 folder opens at startup

Went through a couple more pages in the link above, and no fix.
I also checked the shell in local machine/software/microsoft/windows nt/winlogon and it is set to Explorer.exe (Which is right)
I tried deleting the startup folders for all users, default user, and the actual user, no fix.
It works fine in safemode.
This error is present in every user account, new and old.
Help!

Richar, Try going into your Conrol Panel, open Folder Options, under the View tab uncheck "Restore previous folder windows
at logon", click Apply/OKTufenuf

It was already unchecked when I went into it. :-( I tried checking it, then unchecking it, but still no go.

Woohoo, I got it! Just to let other people know, it was being called from HKey_Local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\policies\run
Finally!
Thanks for all your help Tufenuf!

Richard, Glad you corrected the problem. I'm curious as to what was being called from HKey_Local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\policies\run
Tufenuf

It was a key left over from some spyware. It was pointing to a file similar to kernel.dll, but the spelling was a little different. (They were trying to make it look like a real windows file).
