Hi there, i was wondering if anyone could assist me in fixing my pc somehow. It's only about 5months old and am now having some serious issues with it.

Firstly, programs like internet explorer, firefox and windows live messenger crash continously, stating they have encountered a problem and need to close.

Secondly, exec files are always found to be corrupt, unabling me to install new programs. Although i do have Ad Aware SE Professional and Spybot search and destroy both running, i often have problems with these programs also. Spybot, when loading up, states that ''the application has been changed since it was created. Since Spybot S&D does not change itself, we recommend you check your system for malware instantly' Although my searches find none.

Adaware also has problems, often stating the the file definitions are corrupt and cannot be read.

Symantec Antivirus often gives errors when updating virus definitions, stating it is 'Unable to update virus and security-risk definitions on your computer. Make sure your system disk is not full and then run Liveupdate again'

Combined with all this, the computer often crashes onto the blue screen of death at random times, despite my pc being quite new. The specs are: Dual core 2.6ghz AMD processor. 2GB Dual channel memory, MSI 8600 GT OC edition graphics card.

Can anyone suggest anything i can do to fix any of these problems?

I appreciate any help given, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Chris

A couple of suggestions. Check your memory:

http://memtest86.com/
There is a version to create a bootable floppy diskette and/or an ISO for creating a CD.
Run it overnight and any failures are unacceptable.

You could also run chkdsk /r
This will check the disk for weak/bad sectors.
Note that it takes quite a while to run.

It might also be a good idea to check your fans and maybe clean out your box with a can of compressed air.

You can try this:
D/L avast free:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-a...
to your desktop....disable symantec and then install Avast and LET Avast do a bootscan on Reboot and move everything to the chest.
See how your PC runs after that.

Are you using the immunize feature on Spybot? If not, you should be.

About your browsers crashing, you may want to run an sfc /scannow (if you have an actual XP install disc)

With an actual XP install disc you could also try a repair install:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...
All you would have to do is install the critical up-dates after it is done.

Also run this free active X online scan:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php
and remove all it finds

I think the PC is too new to worry about memory problems, although, anything can happen in cyberworld without notice, that's for sure.

Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!
