I amnt no n00b when it comes to troubleshooting or anything but this has me stumped..

Editplus, traktor dj studio, cubase and wavelab are the perpetrators for what i can see...

I reformat my computer..install all critical updates..install any1 of the said appz..they work perfectly

After 1.5hours, during which my puter is always on, never rebooted, the apps stop working..

I note the filesize..for example.. Traktor.exe (not working) = 17,121,280 bytes

I "repair" the installation and the "new" traktor.exe which works is only 16,912,935 bytes..

It's basically the same story for all the other appz...repair installtion..or extract the .exe which ever is best and its all good for another 5 hours or so..then the same thing..

Could it be my HDD or RAM? The faults either say ModName:<app_name.exe> or ModName: kernell32.dll

Any ideas on help please..i really want to weed this thing out

Hi TouchingVirus,

I think you have chosen an appropriate name for yourself !:)

.exe files are compiled files. It would be 'bad' programming to have them write stuff to themselves (all of them?). I strongly suspect a virus/spyware is in play.
Only other way to account for size-change, is if you're checking the size via different programs each time.

Here are some very useful links:
[on-line] HouseCall Anti-Virus (Trend Micro)
[on-line] RAV Anti-Virus (AV Security)
[on-line] ActiveScan Anti-Virus (Panda)
AVG Anti-Virus (Grisoft)

Spybot Search & Destroy (Safer Networking)
Ad-aware (Lavasoft)
CWShredder (Merijn.org)
TDS-3 (DiamondCS)
Pest Patrol
Keep in mind that some of them may need to be updated over the web first when started, and before zapping the baddies!

My TimeZone (GMT+1) is interfering with following-up on this post (gotta sleep), so good luck for now...

Does this only happen to the apps you named? Or is it random.

Your not running cracks on these apps are you?

Theses symptoms would indicate a cracked .exe somewhere, or something else has infected these files.

What does your AV say?

Multiple times the AV said nothing, im running Symantec Corp. Edition...

It however found it last night and i got it..

W32.Pinfi..aka Parite.B

Appends itself to all .exe's slowly...and only causes the ones that run CRC checks on themselves to crash..aka traktor, editplus etc etc..

I got that good :P...somehow it kept getting into my system even after i reformatted 4 times..i think i found the culprit...one cracktro i love..it was infected and i kept running it everytime i formatted :D

Thanks again

Cracking is bad, look for serials 0:-) LOL.

If you really do like a program and use it a lot you should try and pay for it.

Glad you got everything fixed up,
Sandman
