Hey Guys,

A few hours ago i put my memory stick into my computer (hasn't been in for a while) and it opened but after a while when i tried to open it manually Avira AntiVir came up with a virus warning, at first i didn't realise it was linked to my memory stick so i chose the deny access option. About 4 of these messages came up so i selected deny access for each - except the last one when i selected quarrantine accidently. I tried to open it manually again and the same messages came up. I doubt my memory stick is infected (its only got my word files and a few songs and i've never had problems with it) so i chose the ignore option to see what would happen - nothing did and i couldn't eject my memory stick (but figured out i could get into it when i right clicked and chose open).

So i switched it off, went out - came home and i can't open any .exe files whatsover, not on my desktop or using the start menu - whenever I try the "open with" window comes up with this message "Choose the programme you want to use to open this file".

I tried going to the control panel so I could so the system restore thing and i cant access anything from the control panel except for administrative tools, folder options, fonts and other useless stuff like that - when i click on system or anything else i get "C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found".

The only things i can open are firefox (by selecting it from the open with window but this doesnt work with any other programmes) and itunes (by going to where my songs are and double clicking them)

I also tried this (recommended in another thread)

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...

but it didn't work :(

Please help as this is about as far as my computer knowledge streches :S and i'm stuck!

Thanks in advance!

Go here:

And look at number 12. This script will update the Windows Registry and fix the issue.
