.exe file won't open

I've been trying to open an .exe file for a game that my friend gave me, but the .exe file won't work. I click on it, the mouse flashes the hourglass, but then nothing happens. It worked on his computer, but it's not working on mine. I've tried scanning the file for viruses, but it doesn't open Shaw Secure. Any help would be apperciated.

More info would be nice such as what game is it? Are you and your friends computer running the same OS? What are the specs for the game? Give as much info as you can.
