Hi
I have a problem in my PC and it is that all .exe files whether they are on my desktop , start menu or in programs folder does not run??? However, these programs are still installed in my PC and when I for example try to open Real Player it doesnot run and I get a messege that "windows cannot find 'C:\ program files \Real\RealOnePlayer\realplay.exe'.Make sure you typed the name correctly ,and then try again. To search for a file ,click start button, and then click search." but when I click on a song file that Real Player runs!!!! this case is with all .exe files. Also, I tried to scan in case there is a virus but the Antivirus is not working properly. Internet explorer is working .
please help me please.

Hi,
I think the BugBear virus does that kind of stuff.
First, I would go make a virus scan
(http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/enterprise.htm).. also, have a look at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;250931

Hi meme,
1)
If you created the shortcut links yourself, then note that
C:\program files \Real\RealOnePlayer\realplay.exe
might not work because of the space in 'program files'. Enclose the target-path in quotation marks like this:
"C:\program files \Real\RealOnePlayer\realplay.exe"2)
Do an Anti-Virus scan first to see if a baddie could have been responsible for this:
Anti-Virus:
▫ [on-line] BitDefender Anti-Virus
▫ [on-line] RAV Anti-Virus (AV Security)
▫ [on-line] ActiveScan Anti-Virus (Panda)
▫ [on-line] HouseCall Anti-Virus (Trend Micro)
▫ nod32 Anti-Virus (eset)
▫ F-Prot Anti-Virus (F-Secure)
▫ AVG Anti-Virus (Grisoft)Anti-Spyware:
▫ Spybot Search & Destroy (Safer Networking)
▫ Ad-aware (Lavasoft)
▫ [blocker] SpywareBlaster (Javacoolsoftware)
▫ [on-line] TrojanScan (GFi)
▫ TDS-3 (DiamondCS)
▫ Pest Patrol
▫ CWShredder (Merijn.org)
Keep in mind that some of them may need to be updated over the web first when started, and before zapping the baddies!
At least one AV and an updated Spybot and Adaware should give a clue.
3)
But if they come up clean, then the .exe association getting lost/changed might be due to an error. To try 'n fix it, do this:The .exe association consists of two main parts:
- the .exe association
- the exefile associationFirst, check whether .exe is still pointing to exefile:
Open a CommandPrompt via
START>All Programs>Accessories
and type this in there:
assoc |more
and look for .exe in the list. It should be:
.exe=exefile
If it's there, then the error is in the exefile entry, which can be checked in the registry (.exe entry will be there too)
!! only make changes in the registry if you know exactly what the effect will be. Mistakes will have grave consequences, so ask first if you're unsure.Type regedit into the Run-box
You can press WinKey+R (that's the Microsoft-logo-key+R) to get the Run-box.Browse & select the following key in the left pane:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
Now, on the right, there should be a value, named:
(default)
with the following value:
"%1" %*If there isn't, then create it by rightclicking the right pane and selecting
NEW>String Value
Name it (default) as above, and copy the value as above. Then close the registry-editor.
You may have to logoff/restart before seeing the effect.
