|That's not a bad config. Possibly you are just unlucky with the software you are running.|
Java is crap software, which is know to have uncontrollable and unnecessary memory and CPU usage. Best advise : avoid using Java, use decent software.
Then, CD burners tend to take lots of CPU, ... but only when writing a disc. Apart from that, should be OK.
If your system is also laggy when NOT running these, take a look at this stuff :
Maybe you have a disk I/O issue (disks are slow already, and if you have a technical issue there ...). Do you hear the disk rattle constantly ?
Find out WHAT process is really taking a lot. Any process can take lots of CPU, it's only a problem if it remains to do it, for quite some time.
So, WHAT process is taking too much, there may be something running, constantly taking 20%, while it should take an average of 0.2% ... and these things add up.
If none other is found, than a crap Java processes, you may need to wait either:
- until Java gets its performance issues solved
- until you buy a quadruple (or more) CPU, and let that Java process occupy one full CPU ... enough left
The second is much more likely to solve any current (and future) Java problem, since crap software usually tends to be crap forever. Only solution then comes from hardware, which does improve. It's overkill, but it IS a solution.
