Excel not working w/Word properly

I'm actually working in WinXP and 2000. I have a spreadsheet inserted, but when I add to it, it jumps to a second page. Then, if I add more to it, it disappears altogether!
Thx Dan...I'm also putting in page breaks and they don't seem to be working. How do I get it on more than one page and have the Excel sheet still functional (number totals, etc.)?
