I was just wondering if the cheapest and simplest way to create a database was by using excel? it's a simple little database because only one person will be in charge of it. only 3 dates are going to be entered under each name. also i was just wondering if excel has a good search function that would be able to search for a persons name or date that enter into excel and it would display the results.

Consider Access. Excel is not a database. Sure you can use it as a "contact manager" whcih is what you describe but ACT! or Access will do the job better

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

So, you have Microsoft Excel, but not the full Office suite?

The lower end MS Office editions such as Student Edition or Standard Edition do not include Access. You would have to have at least the Office Professional edition to get Access included. If you want to buy Access seperately it will cost about $200.

One choice for a free software is OpenOffice 2.0 which includes the database program called Base 2.0. It has similar functionality to MS Access.
