Howdy everyone,

It has been awhile but I am still around and kicking and .... asking questions as always ...lol

I was doing a little exploring in my Event Viewer and I noticed that when I click on 'System' I always have the following error entry when I start up my computer:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 9/8/2006
Time: 4:34:30 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ----
Description:
The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error:
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

When I go to the Help link it says there is a fix for this but I am just curious if I really need it. Because outside of the log entry I notice no other ill effects because of whatever is supposedly happening when this entry is created in my log.

Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Phil

this service keeps track of computers in a local area network. if yours is a stand alone system, just disable the service.

Hi mattie,

I appreciate the feedback.

I am on a stand-alone system.

How do I go about disabling this service?

Thanks and regards,

Phil

start > run > type: services.msc and press OK.

find 'computer browser', right click, properties ... set startup type to disabled.

Hi again mattie,

BULLSEYE!

That did it! I rebooted after changing the setting and the message no longer shows in my Event Viewer.

I appreciate you sharing your expertise and time with the likes of me.

Thanks and regards,

Phil
