I have a home network setup, and my XP box is not connecting to the internet, which it has been previously. The router does not light up on the port the box is connected to. Loopback responds correctly. Tried a different cable, and on a different port. When the DSL modem is attached directly to the ethernet port, then a connection can be established, but when on the router, nothing happens. HELP!

what kind of router is it? Are you connecting the cable from the dsl modem in the uplink at the router? and then connecting a different cable from the router to your computer?

maybe a data link cable. you can make one out of a usb or ethernet cable. hole the two ends together face to face and their is your wiring diagram, you can get a better instructions on how to make your own data link cable on the web

The correct wiring of ethernet is 1-2 (tx), 3-6 (RX) you can have a crossed or a straight cable ( depending on your setup )

try to check the router, be sure the port is set to no shut.

success
