Some NICs use manufacturer supplied drivers and software, like their own "control center", others are more Microsoft friendly (i.e. plug-n-play) for specific operating systems.

Is the NIC integrated into the motherboard, or installed in a PCI slot?

Who's the manufacturer? And what model?

Sometimes all you have to do is reboot and log back in and the problem is gone. Have you tried rebooting?

have you tried releasing/ renewing??
start, run CMD, enter.
ipconfig/release
then do same but ipconfig/renew
might be of assistance if its not a hardware issue
