I'm trying to find the ethernet driver download for the emachines 8230. I have looked on the Intel site but there are too many versions to choose from and i'm not EXACTLY sure which version i need. I do realise the emachines 8230 has been discontinued. The motherboard I need it for has a serial number E210882 and I think it's the Intel 845 chipset (i think). It's my brothers computer and he hasn't got all the documentation to enable me to indentify it exactly. If anyone knows which version of the ethernet driver and/or chipset drivers I need I would be most grateful. Many thanks.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

dave t: My neighbor had an Emachine that the built in LAN card was giving him problems. After 1 week of trying to find a driver to make it work, he finally settled on the $14.95 Ethernet Card by LinkSys (LNE100TX LAN card)at Wal-Mart and he's back up running again. This is just an alternative.

i'm still trying to get back to my brothers to have a go. i've downloaded what you suggested mattie and put them on disk. it looks good to me. i'll let you know as soon as i can get over to my brothers to see if they work. thanks for the advice gilloz. if i cant get the ethernet working i might try that. although i'm more concerned with the graphics as his display is shot to s---. what happened was ( not that you want to know lol), my brother put his computer back into the shop where he bought it from for repair for something or other ( a VERY large british computer sales and repair shop. where in the world could that be?) and they actually give it back to him MINUS 1) a graphics driver 2) his ethernet driver and also another minor driver that i cant remember at the moment. thats 3 drivers. clearly marked with a big red X in the device manager. the very first place you check to make sure your computer is ok after you do repair is in the device manager isn't it? unbelievable that they give him his computer back without checking this. where in the world indeed!!
Summary: I've found the manufactiures (Toshiba) xp driver but, I can't seem to get my XP software to accept it. What gives with XP and ethernet driver updates? ...
Summary: There are several methods to install the drivers. When you insert the Gigabyte CD, select browse and you should see the lan/ethernet driver listed separately. Then select it to install. Another method...
