Ethernet controller driver is driving me nuts

December 3, 2010 at 00:41:52
Specs: Windows XP
I reinstalled win xp and found that ethernet controller driver is missing. From what I gather, I need intel chipset driver utility and controller driver itself.

Dimension E510
intel chipset software installation utility
pro/100 ve network driver

Obviously my pc is not connected to internet so I downloaded them to a portable hd. But when I try to reinstall/upgrade, it would not recognize them. Double-clicking them didn't do anything. I think I'm really close to solve this but how can I install that damn driver? Any help will be much appreciated.

... applies to PRO/100 VE Network Connection, after downloading the "app" ... etc

... Click the Start button and then click Run.

... (type) C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R105788 in the Open textbox and then click OK.

... Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Thanks for your quick reply. A question though,
I downloaded R105478, which is a driver. R105788 is a diagnostic utility. So I should use R105478, right?
