I was having some problems and decided I could just reload all the stuff from my windows cd and keep all my files intact.
That screwed up everything. Everything's installing fine and then I get:
error code 0x8007007f
the specified procedure could not be found.failed to load the library c:\windows\system32\catsrv.dll
failed to load the library c:\program files\common files\system\directdb.dll
failed to load the library c:\windows\system32\inetcomm.dll
failed to load the library c:\program files\outlook express\msoe.dll
c:\program files\common files\system\wab32.dll
the file may not have been installed or it has been corruptedNow my user menu comes up, it takes forever to load my desktop and then all I have is a desktop background and my cursor. I can hit ctrl alt del and the task manager opens in the bottom corner 90% out of view. I can click the tabs once I move the window into view - but I cannot access anything else.
I don't want to lose my files by reformating...any ideas?

did you do an actual repair with the xp disk??
boot all the way to where the c: drive is listed, run the repair there.
your data will be intact after its done.

I booted from cd with my xp install disc. it gave me the option to repair my current installation...so that's what I did.
I don't understand what you mean by "boot all the way to where the c: drive is listed, run the repair there."
Are you talking about using the recovery console?

your CD-Rom drive could possibly be bad and or the windows disc is dirty. I'd try a different CD-Rom drive. I've had this happen many times and usually the CD drive was the culprit. However, after rereading your post, I'd do a check on your hard drive too. It may be heading south.
