Hi,
I am getting an error message when right clicking on Desktop to goto display properties, however i can get into display properties from the control panel. I can use the right click action properly in other places.

When I right click on Desktop it generates error "Windows Explorer has caused an error and needs to be closed". When I click on details it specifies as Explorer.exe error in hccutils.dll. I am using Windows XP.

Not sure but I've seen some virus's do this type of thing. Check Symantec's web site to see if you have the BugBear virus. It has been known to cause simlar behaviour.

Have you tried downloading/installing the latest display drivers from Intel?

If you have,and the problem then started,try the driver rollback feature.

*See if you have this listed under Start/Run/msconfig;

Igfxtray / IGFxTray.exe

(Intel) Intel Graphics Tray. System Tray icon which gets installed with the drivers for onboard VGA cards based on the Intel 81x graphics chipset. Double-clicking on it enables you to quickly change the display resolution, save your current Display Scheme, or configure your onboard graphics card. You can also configure keyboard hotkeys (shortcuts – this is handled by another background task called HKCMD).You can access the same features through the "Intel Graphics Technology" icon in the Control Panel.

Recommendation :
Although great in theory,on some PCs we have found that whenever IGFXTRAY and HKCMD are running,Windows Explorer is prone to hanging and showing as "not responding" in the Task List.Our recommendation,therefore,is that you should not have this tray icon running,and that you should also not use the hotkey facility that comes with it.Disable both IGFXTRAY and HKCMD with Startup Manager.

Thanks for the reply. I tried reinstalling the video drivers. Also I dont think it could drivers issues because i can access the display properties from the control panel. This happens only when I right click on desktop I even tried using windows right click menu key in the keyboard still its not working. I think i have to probable do a repair installation or reinstall windows as it specifies some dll file error. Thanks for suggestions if u have any please let me know.

Thanks
Jerry.
