Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody is able to tell me what causes, or how to stop, the windows "[program] has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" errors? Like this one
I used to use dvdSanta quite regularly but one time when I tried to encode a film I kept getting this error message as soon as it started. I can't think of anything I've changed and I've even tried a clean boot of XP to see if it's a conflict with a piece of software I'd installed.
I can give all the data error report information if it helps, but is there any common thing that causes these problems?

...is there any common thing that causes these problems?
Yeah it's all because of the imperfect world of programming codes!
When a particular program crashes, it automatically invoke the common exit code that generates the message ...has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The info contained in this report is useful only to the programmers that created the program.
In your case, however, the problem may have more to do with dvdSanta itself, based on THIS thread.

Oops typo
...invoke the common exit code that generates the message...
should read
...invoke the common exit route that generates the message...

Ok. Thanks a lot.
That thread kinda helped but I decided I'd try running it in compatibility mode to see if it would have an effect, which it didn't. Then I thought I'd try a different file since I've been trying to encode the same thing ever since I've had this error and amazingly enough it worked! I've just tried a few other files and they all work fine, so It looked like there was something wrong with the file I was encoding.
I've just tried renaming the file and now it's happily encoding away!
I've got even less idea what the problem was now but it's working after God knows how long of getting errors so I'm not complaining!
Thanks anyway!
