error receiving fax

I get an error message when receiving a fax in the windows xp fax console, its "an error occurred while receiving the fax". I have everything configured so my modem will receive but its not working. I can only send. my modem is capable of fax. I have been looking everywhere for a solution and havent found one yet. I hope someone here can help me.

I have already configured my modem and everything how I am supposed to but when I connect to receive it, it will stay connected about a minute then it will fail. I read through the microsoft support page and I've already done all the things listed, and I am up to date with all the updates I need. Any other suggestions?

Hi sonya email me at toots123@tiscali.co.uk. I am interested how you have got on. I too am having same problem. People are saying have you done this or that and is it enabled to recieve fax... Which I have and I have downloaded updated driver. Is your fax dialing tone audible? cos my message is the same but I sometimes hear it answer then say please hang up and try again... Microsfot say is because my modem isn't compatible with XP or my phone line? but on my previous machine it worked perfectly well?
