Error Reading SCSI Device

I have a CanoScan 2700F connected to my SCSI card and my Canon Software reports the error reading the SCSI device. The hardware is installed and working correctly. From my investigations, it would appear that as XP does not install any ASPI.SYS or ASPI32.SYS files, that is the problem. Microsoft refer me to the Adaptec site for the files, yet Adaptec state that ASPI32.exe should NOT be installed on Win 2k or XP. Can anyone advise me on the best course of action?

Dave That model was discontinued in 1999 and is not listed at Cannons site or the MS hardware compatibility site.I did find some XP drivers for some newer Canoscan film scanners that were XP compatable, perhaps give them a try. I think however you may be SOL Jimi_l

On the pages of Canon Germany (http://support.canon.de/produkte/diascannertt.htm) they say, that the ASPI drivers are really needed and according to their tests - do not cause any problems ("...Bei den von uns durchgeführten Tests kam es nach der Installation des ASPI-Layers zu keinen Beeinträchtigungen des Systems."). So I have tried (downloaded ASPI32.exe from Adaptec), installed, rebooted and ... IT WORKS !
