Comment:

Everytime Windows starts up, I get two popup windows. I was hoping someone can help me get rid of it. The two error windows reads:

File Error
cannot find setupx.dll

Application Error
PTSNOOP caused a General Protection Fault in module PTSNOOP.exe at 0001:1323
choose close. PTSNOOP will close

Help would be much appricated! Thanks!

Poss part of your modem's setup, although could also a virus of the same name.

If your virus scanner is upto date then a virus is doubtful.

PTsnoop can be installed as part of modem set-ups but is not an essential part. You can safely remove it from your startup sequence.

Re: setupx.dll I didn't think setupx.dll was even in XP. I might be mistaken, but I don't even remember seeing problems with that since Win98. Is there some older application running on startup that might be trying to access that dll?

Q. What is PTSnoop?

A. The PTSnoop program is used by the modem to interface with your computer.

The program is not actually "snooping", but is interfacing with your computer to allow the modem to function. It is looking for an available COM port for your modem to use.

PTSnoop is not a malicious program and is not gathering any data about you. You can remove the PTSnoop application, but every time you reboot your computer it will reinstall itself.

Reinstall PTSnoop!

Thank you all for the information! I simply searched for and then removed PTSNOOP from my hard drive as was suggested by you guys. Guess what? It fixed both of the error popup boxes!

To the question asking about setupx.dll, it's most likely because I have Windows98 as my base OS and then used WindowsXP Upgrade to...upgrade to WindowsXP OS.

Thank you all again! You guys are the best!
