Comment: I have been getting an error message, "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application". When I close one message box, the next one pops up. I removed some app from Add/remove programs (I am not sure which one I uninstalled) and the problem came after that. When I searched for support from the Microsoft website, it asked me to contact the system admin for configuration settings!! The event log shows: 3/15/2004 12:19:39 PM SideBySide Error None 59 N/A VINOD Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11\MSO.DLL. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully. 3/15/2004 12:19:39 PM SideBySide Error None 33 N/A VINOD The application failed to launch because of an invalid manifest. 3/15/2004 12:19:39 PM SideBySide Error None 58 N/A VINOD "Syntax error in manifest or policy file ""C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_Policy.6.0.Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_x-ww_5ddad775\6.0.10.0.Policy"" on line 9." 3/15/2004 12:19:39 PM SideBySide Error None 64 N/A VINOD "Syntax error in manifest or policy file ""C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_Policy.6.0.Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_x-ww_5ddad775\6.0.10.0.Policy"" on line 9. The root or application manifest contains the noInherit element but the dependent assembly manifest does not contain the noInheritable element. Reference error message: The manifest file contains one or more syntax errors. Can you help me i fixing the error.

Reply: (edit)Right now it seems that the simplest solution will be to run the system restore wizard. BTW, was the app You removed have to do with any part of the .NET package??
