Ryan is pretty damn stupid, a wrong cartridge would not fit into the slot provide. I contacted an ink company and gave them my model number printer and told them the numbers on the original ink that was in the printer. I contacted the company that sold me the correct cartridge and they explain a process that worked.
1/ turn your printer on and open the print cartridge access door, wait 2-3 seconds,
remove the cartridges from the printer, then unplug the power cord.
2/ wait 20 minutes, during that time, clean off the contact part of the cartridge and the printer with rubbing alcohol, then prime the cartridge by holding the cartridge (nozzle down) then damp the nozzle on a wet paper towel for 5 to10 times, every time you damp
the cartridge you will start to see the color come out on the paper.
3/ plug the power cord back in, sometimes the printer turns on by itself or you will need
to turn on the power.
4/ your will read on the front panel an ERROR message saying that there is no cartridge or you will see a flashing light.
5/ reinstall the cartridge and try again

Then a.) You should have provided more information in your original post than you did and b.) you should have contacted the cartridge company in the first place which you subsequently did. c.) you should remember that this is a forum which deals with problems with the XP operating system and not with HP printers.

Your first post on this forum will not have earned you too many friends and most correspondents here have damn good memories.
