It could be the controller on the motherboard or the mobo itself. Looks like you're going to have to call Dell........have fun..........

Dude, all PCs are NOT the same! Even 2 Dells cannot use the same HD to boot.

Unless they are EXACTLY the same model with identical motherboards.

What exactly did you mean by: "I have 2 dell pcs on one"

Have you changed anything in system or hardware configuration?
Also, once I had an loading operating system error when my RAM was burned out.

Richgu - punctuation might've made things clearer:

"I have 2 dell pcs. On one, I get error loading operating system."

Perhaps the machines are identical models - all things being equal, then (as suggested) it would appear to be a hardware issue on the 'problem' machine

the machines are identical...sorry for any confusion.......on one machine when I boot it up I get the error message, error loading operating system..........however if I take the hard drive out of that machine and place it in the second one(that works properly) it boots up with no problem at all. If I take the hard drive from the system that boots properly and place it in the one that got the error message, I get the same error again.........does that make sense? LOL....

Tends to indicate some kind of hardware or bios setting problem. Try reseating ram and check/compare bios settings. Reseat the IDE cable or swap the cables as well as the drives.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
