Due to a virus and my computer running slow, I decided to reformat my Dell Dimension 3000. I did so and the system was running great for about 2 days, then I got a message saying Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this problem as: load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to report this problem.

I've read some other postings that say to reformat again, but I cannot reformat. Each time I try to reboot, I get the same error message.

How to I reformat again? How do I get the system to download when all I get is the error message?

Thanks for your help.

We need to know what the exact error message is. There maybe a way to get you booted by installing the correct drivers (DLLs) but you may need to perform a disc check to see if your harddrive is ok. Sometimes these viruses just screw with the files and sometimes they are able to destroy complete folders...

I had a similar problem, boot from the install disk and go into the repair console (press r)and do the following commands:

copy [Disk]:\i386\kdcom.dl_ [drive]:\windows\system32\kdcom.dll

copy [Disk]:\i386\bootvid.dl_ [drive]:\windows\system32\bootvid.dll

there is a space after copy and in between the file paths substitute your Cd drive leter for [disk]and your hard drive letter for [drive]
this should fix Your problem but if its the same as mine your in for more trouble.
