Hi all,
I installed XP Pro on my new computer (it came without OS). while working on the computer, the mointer gets blank "still on" or the browser terminate after an error message. I tried checking the connection but it looks good. I tried installing the software for my mointer "samsung 96BDF" with no luck. I tried installing the latest driver for the display card "GeForce4 MX 420" but still having the problem. I have noticed that when I click on the start button, the sides of the display moves inward little bit. once I click on the middle of the screen, it gets back to the normal position. I tried reinstalling the XP Pro but I got error message "internal system error". I tried formatting the hard drive but I still got error "bad Pool_Caller". I installed Windows 2000 Pro, it just work perfect.what could be the reason and how to fix it?
any help is highly appreciated.
Mubarak

It could be a lot of things, but I am thinking hardware failure and/or incompatibility. Do you have another video card to try? It has been my experience that XP seems to be fussy when it comes to hardware and what may run ok on one OS may not on XP. The "bad pool caller" error is usually IRQ related and the odd screen behaviour seems to also lead back to the card.
Starting from scratch I would:
1) Download the hard drive maufacturer's utility for that drive and run it. Format errors before the install are a bad way to start. Eliminate the drive as the problem first.
2)If you are using NTFS, Try FAT32 (or visa versa).
3)Try another card.
4)Try another cable(s).
5)Unplug all non essential items for the install (modem, sound, extra CD ROM drives etc).Good luck,
