I keep getting these windows system pop-ups, that there is an "error in Winsock module, connection structure unknown" at the end it says "make sure that "smss.exe" can connect to the internet" I get four pop-ups like this, and in the others the only difference is "crss.exe" or "services.exe".

I can access the internet normally. But how do I get rid of these popups?
Thanks!!

Hi,
Even I was facing the same problem "Error in Winsock Module".

Luckily i Found an article that indicated that this was caused by a Virus named "w32.sober.O@mm", I downloaded the tool from "http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sober.removal.tool.html" and that did fix the problem.....

Best of Luck.....

I am having the same winsock error problem. I updated my symantec antivirus software and ran a scan of my C-drive. It found the W32 Sober virus and quarantined a bunch of files including the smss.exe, services.exe, and crss.exe files. I then tried to clean them and it would not do it. I also tried to use both the Symantec and McAffee removal tools, and they both said no viruses or trojans found. Any idea how I can get rid of this virus and stop these irritating pop-up error messages?
