...Need input...

Give us a screenshot if you can for that error message unless it is preboot. if it is pre windows gui, then be sure to give us the 3 letter extension of that file. for instance, cnfg.??? or cnfg.dat etc. then we will try to figure out what is going on.

I'm having the same problem - just says cnfg, no path, no file extension.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

contains cnfg which is an empty file?

c:\windows also contains cnfg , which is about 40K. When I try to delete it, windows tells me Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk.

?

Hi guys, managed to remove it but for the life of me can't remember all the steps. It was caused by the virus that attempted to launch unwise.exe all over the show. I removed the links to the file in the registry (as the anti-virus didn't) - look under RunOnce etc.

I also deleted it in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup directory... did this by booting up into command mode (dos) and doing the good-ol fashioned delete.

Hope this helps
Shaun (aka Timmy)

PS there is a great program called ActiveStartup which will show you exactly what programs are launching on startup (great for picking up trojans).
