Q:
You cannot modify (rename, delete,...) a movie file and receive a message similar to this: "... It is being used by another program or user".

Want to solve it quickly?

Possible Reason:
----------------
Avi files using DivX codec can be trouble in Windows XP. The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll.

The declare is at the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\ClassesCLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32

Quick Solution:
---------------
Use Windows Explorer to see the properties of the file that causes the error. You can use the context menu (right click). After that you can make modifications to the file.

This solution works for my systems.

Someone told me that I could delete the above registry key or delete the explore.exe process while leaving a console session alive. But I think it is not neccessary. The small trick would solve the problem.

Best wishes,
vxh.
