Ich received the same error-message while installing XP. So i tried w2k, nt and win98. To solve the prob i changed my CPU and voilá!! it worked together with all OSs. It also could be possible that there is another hardware failure like: broken RAM, or something with the mainboard. Try to change it. Ask a friend if he/she could help u.
by and lotz of fun.

I am getting the same error on installing Windows 2000. I too have no solution but am looking. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Does anyone know if bad memory could cause this problem?

Guys,
I was getting teh same issue.. But it was Error Code 4. OS = Win2k. System was working, great. I updated Bios! Asus A7M266 MOBO! After I updated Bios, I started getting error ntkrnlmp.exe And OS would not load. I tried to re-run Installation, and got that other error in subject Code 4. I rebooted system and went in Bios, Loaded Bios Defaults.. Rebooted, adn it went back into OS.. No Repair / Install needed.. I hope it works for you guys!

I have the same problem installing win2k pro and server on two seperate machines. MS suggests its something thats wrong with the OEM drivers when using the boot setup floppy disks (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q281/6/47.ASP)
Didn't understand it but suggests that if you boot from CD or create the startup disks from a newer update of win2k will fix this - anyone have any updates to this??

I've worked out a solution (works for win2k anyway)!!!

If you create the bootdisks from the file \bootdisk\MAKEBT32.exe
instead then it will create startup disks which will work for booting from floppy

Had the same error on my 300MHz PII, 128MB with win 98 running on FAT16 partition.

Moved everything to C: and formatted my second drive to NTFS.

Moved files I wanted to save to the newly formatted D: drive.

Loaded NT4 from floppies, used fdisk to wipe out all partitions on the primary disk.

Upgraded to W2000 (it was either that or find and load SP5.)

Upgraded to XP.

Moved all docs back to C: and reinstalled all programs.

Likely not the smarted route, but it DID work.

Make sure your ram, if you only have one stick, is in slot 1. Very important!

I upgraded my CPU to P-III 733 from P-II 300
and im getting that same error message when i want to install XP with P-II everything is ok i get error only with P-III so i guess its somehow connected to it (meybe the BIOS needs to be upgraded but i cannt get to atren website right now)
Will check that and see does it solve the problem (tryed updating microcode but that did not help)
(memory and rest of hardware is the same in both CPU cases so its not up to memory neither
