Error - cmd.exe Path Variable
Name: astroraptor Date: June 29, 2008 at 18:43:07 Pacific OS: Windows XP Pro CPU/Ram: 1.8GHz/1024MB Product: IBM/NetVista
Comment:
Every time I go into the command-line, commands like "ping" do not work unless I navigate to C:\Windows\System32. If I echo %path% and then set Path to what was echoed, everything workds as it should somehow yet technically nothing was changed. Anyone?

Right click My Computer. Choose Advanced. At the bottom, click Environment Variables. Scroll down to PATH. Is C:\Windows\System32 included somewhere in that line?

astroraptor:Path=%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\; If, when you echo %PATH%, and it starts with PATH=, it shouldn't. Change that.

Have you tried just deleting the PATH registry keys, and rebuilding the settings from scratch?

Hmm, weird. I copied the line. Deleted the variable. Started cmd.exe and exit right away. Went back, created a new Path variable and pasted what I had copied earlier. Click okay, all is well. :P Figure that one out.

astroraptor: Figure that one out. My guess? Some invalid character found its way into the registry key, and it broke the variable. Why it didn't break the displaying of said variable, I know not.
