I followed this suggestion recently:Go to Start/Run, type in MSCONFIG and click OK. Look under the Startup tab and if you see that 5 tiny box entry uncheck it and restart your computer...after doing that i kept getting a message that i had attempted to change system configuration, and go back and recheck it...it also had a box to check, 'do not repeat this message'...i finally checked the box and hope i'm ok...BUT,,,since doing that i also get a NEW message "Error loading..C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\SSTSMON.dll..." i have no clue what this means..my anti virus is working fine..should i delete it and reinstall?? i never got that message before changing the system configuration?

how do i STOP .net messenger from automatically opening up?

Download HiJackThis, install & run to get a log file. Don't fix anything yet.
You then post the log file at the site provided below & it will tell you what to fix.

===================================

This is a better tool, rather than msconfig.

Startup Control Panel
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet ( Sits in Control Panel ) that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It's simple to use and, like all my programs, is very small and won't burden your system. A valuable tool for system administrators!
Startup Control Panel is compatible with all modern versions of Windows, including Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.
May need to use InstMsi http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/ie/comctrlx86.asp

I found this information:

http://www.justtext.com/processes-tasks/sstsmon-dll.html

This file is called Spy Sherriff and will startup whenever you reboot your pc, the registry setting will show: [StopSignSsTsMon] Rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\sstsmon.dll
This will be found on your disk at C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\sstsmon.dll

I guess it was meant to load this dll at start up and because you have unchecked it it is not loading. The anti virus program is looking for it and therefore gives you the error message. Go back to msconfig and recheck your antivirus program to load at start up.

Having a similar problem (same error message) I was interested in these postings. However, my problem is that the sstsmon.dll is actually MISSING.

What do I need to do to replace it? I've got XP SP2 fully up to date - but I think this dll was deleted by person or person I can't name(!).
