My mouse will be working absolutely fine, but then at irregular intervals it will suddenly become uncontrollable and behave as if the mouse buttons are being used. So if I am in a program that scrolls - my mouse will start scrolling the screen and selecting everything. In the windows interface the mouse tends to home in on the start button and then any movement causes it to open folders, start programs, open property boxes, close folders etc......... very erratically. It will do this for a period of between say 5 seconds and sometimes it will continue to do it for up to 30. The mouse becomes so sensitive that in the time I take to make one movement it will have repeatedly gone back to the start menu or the top or bottom of the screen executing actions several times.
I have done a virus check and a Windows XP Repair - but it still does it - it also appears to become more frequent the longer I am on the computer, but there doesn't seem to be a fixed pattern for it occuring or a consistent set of triggers......... Any ideas anyone??? Note it also for some reason will occassionally reduce Internet Explorer windows to just the height of their toolbar - this happens occassionally but consistently enough to warrant a mention.
Thanks for all the advice!

Gee, another person who can write and spell. Nice to see on this site.
Assume you have changed batteries. Also do a google search for 'drunk mouse'. Seriously. There is such a syndrome.

Please specify if your mouse uses the wheel at the bottom or is your mouse laser guided?
(the red light)if your mouse is wheel based then a clean up might fix it. Just clean the little rollers that control the wheel. Those plastic rollers tend to collect dust that u can remove with any sharp object.
If they are clean then just disable your mouse using device manager and boot your pc.
