Erratic mouse pointer

My mouse pointer suddenly became very erratic. It jumps around and its difficult to point it at any particular spot. I ran Spybot, Superantispyware and Add-Aware without any success. Any suggestions?
When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Try a different mouse also because the cord (tail) may have a split thus causing the PS/2 controller to misinterpret commands due to the intermittent connection.

If it is corded, it is common for wires to get broken inside the cable, usually right where it enters the mouse. If the wire's insulation is still intact and if the broken wire ends are touching, it will have an erratic connection. Try another mouse
