Dell computers tend to have either a hidden partition or a visible partition that you may wish to keep.

If you don't care then boot to the CD/DVD and follow the normal instructions. If it says there is an install then delete that partition.

It may be that this cd is a special cd that installs a bit different.

The software that Dell sent you should be perfect if you ordered it with your service number.

Did you order a Dell branded Windows XP disc or a Dell propietary recovery disc? How you reload Windows will depend on the CD that you ordered. Anyway, your XPS 400 should have the X300SE. Oh & BTW, do you have one or two hard disks in that system?

>> If you ordered a Dell branded XP disc, all you do is:

→ Insert the disc & turn off the machine.

→ Upon restarting the machine, press the applicable key if prompted to boot from the disc.

→ Follow the instruction to start setup & make sure you delete all partitions on your hard disk before reloading Windows.

→ When Windows installation is complete, install your device drivers & that's it.
