Dear all,
I have a problem printing with my epson stylus photo 700 under xp! Indeed, it only prints part of a sheet and then jumps to another page to print part of the rest...that undefinitely!! It also sometimes prints anything but not what wanted! However, I have installed the XP driver provided by microsoft! I don't know what cause the trouble. If you have an idea...please help. Thank you

have you been looking for a driver from the manufacturer?
did the printer ever print before on this machine (with a different o/s)?
check the bios setting for your printer port (it should be epp/ecp)
good luck, matti

Hi, i dont know if this is any help but i have a Photo 750 printer and when i rang Epson they told me to download the Windows 2000 driver and it works fine with XP, might be worth trying if there is a Win 2000 driver for yours.

Same problem here with XP. Have tried new drivers, different scanners, etc. Settings seem to help but the problem still happens depending on what image is being printed.
Reported problem to Epson, no response yet.

Reponse from Epson. Not sure if it works yet.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
respond to your inquiry. To change an ECP Printer Port to a Standard Printer Port, please follow
these directions:1. Click on "Start" "Control Panel"
2. Double click on "System"

(COM & LPT)"
5. Right click on "LPT1" and select "UPDATE DRIVER"

7. Click "NEXT"
8. Click on "DON'T SEARCH. I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL"

PORT TYPES" is selected on the left side, and highlight "PRINTER PORT"
on the right side
11. Click "NEXT"
12. Click on "FINISH" when the wizard indicates the process is complete
13. Restart your computer

I have exactly the same problem!!! Tried both the windows XP driver and the downloaded driver from Epson, all to no avail. Also tried giving the printer buffer more space.

My printer doesn't work at all with windows xp. It did work when I first installed xp, but it suddenly stopped and never worked again. My printer is Epson Stylus Photo... Nothing helps, not installing 2000 software neither changing the settings....

re xanders prob. This could be caused by the Status Monitor (ESM2). Running it seems to kill off the printer ports for ever! I had to re-install XP, then I removed ESM2. Before removal you may have to delete it from the Startup menu, and reboot.

Some progress !!!
Referring to Responses 6 & 7, the Epson procedure didn't work because it wasn't complete ! Microsoft (Danny Hua) have been very helpful and gave me the following:
---------------------
Microsoft instructions followStep 1: Refer to the following Web page to change an ECP Printer Port to
a Standard Printer Port:http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/10665.html
Step 2: Manually remove the printer driver
-----------1. Click Start, click Settings, and then click Printers and Faxes.
2. Right click your printer icon, and select Delete to remove this
printer.
3. Click Start, click Run, input REGEDIT in the Open box and then
press ENTER.
4. In the Registry Editor, right click the following key and then
select Delete to remove it:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\control\print\environments\W
indows NT x86\drivers\version-35. Close the Registry Editor.
Step 3: Remove the temporary files and the driver files in the printer
spool folder:
--------------
-----1. Right click Start, and select Explore to open Windows Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the Folder Options dialog, click the View tab.
4. Check the "Show hidden files and folders" and "Hide file
extensions for known file types" check boxes.
5. Click Apply and then click OK.
4. Remove the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder.
5. Remove the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\W32x86\3 folder.
(Note: I assume your Windows XP is installed on the "C:\Windows"
directory.)Note: I assume that your Windows XP is installed on the "C:\Windows"
directory. If the spool folder is on another partition, please remove
all the files and sub folders. Then, restart the computer and have Windows XP redetect the printer.
Windows XP will automatically install the built-in printer driverEnd of Microsoft instructions
----I've done this and made a big improvement. Note a) Trouble with step 5; I renamed the folder.
Note b) After this, I installed the Windows 2000 driver, which worked better than the built-in one.Printing is now perfect on 'simple' jobs with not too much graphics. But it's still unsatisfactory with full page graphics at high quality. I'll be pressing Epson further, since it is obviously their problem.
I hope someone else will try this and report here
