I have an epson c46 printer, but it is not vista compatible with my pc, so i contacted epson via email & they said that they wont be updating a driver for this printer & they said that it would work if i used a ltp port. But my pc is new & there is no ltp port on the back of it, as new pc's now dont have these. Does anyone know if you can get one of these ports & if possible can you connect it via a usb port or something. Thanks for any help received.

What you're talking about is an lpt (parallel) port. What model of Dell do you have? You could buy a PCI card, but if there are no drivers available for Vista, then I don't know why the connection matters. You could always try installing the XP drivers for the printer and use the USB connection.

Life's more painless for the brainless.

There are PCI cards with parallel (LPT) ports. It 'shouldn't' need any driver. The parallel and serial ports are supported by the bios.

Do a Google search for "parallel PCI"

If Epson has no plans to deliver Vista c46 drivers, I think you have no chances to put at work your printer under that OS.

To connect to LPT port may indeed be done, but without a driver that converts application commands to low level orders for the printer you can't get any hardcopy.

Connection is a physical issue, while driver's operations involve logical processing too.

I too was disappointed by Epson support when I replaced an old Stylus Color 850 with a c86 not compatible with ESC/P streams. The quality of the printer is degraded too.

Epson is no more a market leader in my opinion.

Hi, I had a similar problem. I managed to get it working by plugging in the usb cable, turning on the printer.

Then when vista asks about installing drivers select 'ask me again later' then go into control panel, select device manager and in the list you should see Usb printer in other devices. Now right click on it select update drivers, then browse my computer.

Now navigate your way through windows to system32 and then to driverstore. select ok and let it search for drivers. It now works fine for me.

Hope it helps
