Comment:

I'm currently unable to boot into XP (this includes safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known working configuration, and start windows normally). It starts up, shows the hardware info and windows goes into it's start-up screen (the one that says xp at the top and has the green bar sliding across the screen). Then the screen goes black and it reboots. Nothing works. I have tried the solution found here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310396 , with no result. What can I do aside from reinstalling the OS. I have added no software or hardware since it was last working properly. Thanks.

Buddy in that case, you have to follow "hit n trial" method to troubleshoot it.
First of all remove all the cables from the back of you CPU, expect MOUSE,KEYBOARD,MONITOR and POWER. now when you turn it on...you should hear a BEEP which whould indicate that there is no hardware failure. else u mught have some hardware conflict/failute.

if stil you are not able to load windows...then do one thing...instead of reinstallin whole OS....try bootin from the windows Xp CD.... on the first screen...Press ENTER......on the second screen PRESS F8 key to agree .....now on the third screen press "R" to start the repait install.... n thats it... in this process nothing is lost .....all your prog n documents will be there on the disk :)

I've gotten the beep every time without fail. I'll try to "repair" and see what happens. Thanks.

freddd, there seem to be a number of problems with SP2. Take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875355&product=windowsxpsp2kb
and see if that addresses your problem. At least they are trying, that makes me feel better.
