|I found some posts here on "end program-sample" popup windows on shutdown, and one reply mentioned Intel PROset. I'm posting to report that this seemed to answer my problem.|
I tried removing Intel PROset entirely, and it worked. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with Windows XP, and I've struggled with the wireless adapter forever. Dell advises using PROset, and disabling the Wireless Zero Configuration service so that Windows leaves the adapter alone. But I've decided it works much more cleanly to enable Wireless Zero (Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services) and Windows (Start > Connect to > [Wireless Connection] > Properties > Wireless Networks > [check] Use Windows...
Windows does a nice, clean job of managing the Intel wireless adapter, so Intel PROset can be simply uninstalled entirely. No more shutdown delays, no more "Sample" problem, and I believe the laptop runs faster.
I hope this helps if anyone is having this problem.
