In order to get Windows updates, it seems that I have to enable svchost.exe, which is currently being blocked by Sygate 5.6. I can't see how to enable it, as it is not listed as an application by Sygate. How can I enable/unblock it? Thanks very much.

I don't know if sygate is a paid program for you? Why not D/L Comodo Pro free firewall: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.... then uninstall Sygate and try Comodo. See if you can get the updates. Just a suggestion for you....I used to use Sygate for yrs and switched to Comodo a few yrs back....works great for me. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

svchost.exe is quite likely not being blocked it is the process associated with it which is being blocked: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314...

Walter, without even checking I am pretty sure that you are right, since svc was not a listed spp; however, I couldn't figure out which app is was working for. Thanks for the link, I'll see if I can get it now.

Yuck... the problem is probably http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sh... that... but catch 22, I can't seem to download the fix to get svc working, because svc won't work/is blocked and I can't get the ms download to work. :(
