enabling standby mode

is there any registry entry to enable standby mode in my pc?
my pc's standby button in start menu just gone inactive but i dunno why.....

Go into the Control Panel, Power Options, and make sure Enable Hibernation is checked.

If so, I don't know about XP, but in Win98, whenever the standby option disappeared, you could go into the device manager and delete the Floppy Disk Drive and reboot the computer, and all would be well.

No, I'm not crazy, I learned this from a former Microsoft employee! Somehow this would reset everything.
