Specs: Windows XP
In a flurry to try and get my CD drive going i accidently disabled my hard disk (C) with the operating system on it, now it wont boot up and bios detects it and i have reset to default settings to no avail.

What do i do.

Can i set the hard disk up as a usb connected one and enable with another computer?

... enter your bios and select the harddrive as "first" option in the booting order sequence (save settings on exit of bios)

... worth a try!
