Comment:

I was resizing and deleting and reorganizing partitions in Windows. I restart my computer to finalize the operations, and I get this error after all is done. It stops the bootup process, saying there's an error with EMM386.exe. Now I can't boot off a CD or even to the hard drive. I'm stuck at this error. Clearing the CMOS and moving around the SATA cable didnt help, not that I expected it would anyway...

Help?

"resizing and deleting and reorganizing partitions"

Must have involved Partition Magic, Ranish or other 3rd party tool.

Looks like it somehow scooped in an old multiboot. AFAIK, there's no need for emm386.

You might make some headway by booting on a floppy and deleting emm386.exe

Of course if it's NTFS, this won't fly.

You don't need a new HD.

I have not used delpart so I don't know if you can remove selected partitions. But it is very highly recommended.

might want to consider a repair reinstall before you render your system completely inop.
