Comment:

I recently purchased a new computer about 2 days ago. Its been working fine and everything aside from the fact I cant access email! I have Windows XP Home edition and I figure that may be a problem or something as I have not installed anything since I got the PC.

I canlogin to my email accounts on sites like hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc..but I cannot check my inbox, it NEVER loads it just says cannot connect to server or whatever. However I can on stuff like bellsouth.net which is my ISP.

Ive tried to open my email on yahoo, hotmail from various web browsers but it just wont work.

If anyone can help me itd be MUCH appreciated.

Thank you

Also I have a Windows XP Professional CD was wondering if I installed it would everything on my computer work okay?

If you are talking about Outlook Express you have to set it up. You have open Outlook and go to tools, accounts, properties, servers. Then add the info that is specific for your ISP and type of connection. Your ISP can provide all the info. You can probably even find all the info at the BellSouth site. Mine is broadband and has settings - "Incoming Mail (POP3)" - mail.comcast.net. "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" - smtp.comcast.net. You also have to put in the "Incoming Mail Server" info, and you have to know your password, and you have to set up each email account. So it will be different for everyone and the easy way is to call your ISP and they will walk you through it.

At least I think this is what you are referring to.

Use spybot S&D and get rid of the spy and adware, it's automatically loaded onto all systems.
Make sure you up-date it on-line before running it and after you fix the problems immunize your PC to keep them from returning.

WinXP jams a PC with ad and spyware from what I've gathered.

Post back if this works for you....thanx

If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL!

ATL Falcon,

That sounds weird to me. I have both a hotmail and a yahoo account and never experienced any problems due to sypware. But is sounds possible. And I do know that my second computer came with "Wild Tangent" already installed on it. It's for gamming. I saw wild tangent and removed it as I recalled having problems with spyware and adware from that program or web site. So I guess a new computer could have sypware/adware in it. And strange things can happen when you have these applications. Did you try to access your inbox from another computer? That would be what I would do to confirm the email account is operating properly.

James.
