emachines restore

hi. i have a friend trying to run the recovery on his emachines desktop pc. when we boot to the recovery disk 1, we have 2 options - 1. restore windows xp, 2. boot to command prompt. when we choose 1, we get error "bad command or file name". does anyone know how to get the restore going? thanks.

If I recall, eMachines come with a recovery CD as well as a restore CD set. The recovery CD can only be used if you in fact made an "image" of your system to it. Hence the options and the error message. You probably never made the image. Use the restore disks instead.
