Hi there. I have a laptop which i have removed the screen as it was broken. I connect it to an external monitor. I reinstalled WinXP and found that there was no audio and in Device Manager no sound card even mentioned. I tried installed AC97 software, but this did nothing. I began to assume that when removing the screen i must have damaged something. I installed Ubuntu and the sound sang away quite happily. Weird. Installed WinXP again this moring as i thought something might have happened the first time and the audio is missing again.
p.s.: you should install the chipset driver prior to the audio driver.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. I have the drivers from this site. I also downloaded them from there on the previous install. I will however take your advice and try the chipset driver first. Just seems so odd that Device Manager makes no reference to an audio device, installed or without driver. Thanks again. Darren
