I ran out of room on my old 60G Hd so I added a new 100G. I used EZ gig 2 software to clone my old Hd but in doing so I did not get the extra space on my C: drive. My partitions are as follows:

FAT Eisa Config. 39 gig 32 gigs free
FAT32 unknown part 3.39 GB 462KB free
NTFS C: 51 gig 861 KB free

What is the Eisa Config partition? Can I use Part. Magic to resize it down? If so how much extra space should I leave?

What is the Fat 3.30 GB partition? Can I resize it? Is so to what size?

I am new to XP and am unfamilar with the Eisa and extra partitions?

Lyle

Oops I listed the size of the EISA wrong it is 39 MB with 32 MB free space. The new question is where is the rest of my free space. I installed a 100 GB drive but it only shows 55 Gigs! When I check in the setup scree it says its a 58 gig drive. From what I understand of Xp pro you dont have a bios to chnge the size in so how do I make the computer see the proper 100 gig size drive?

What is the Eisa Config partition?

It is your Dell Recovery partition for the preinstalled XP. You never know when you will need it to bail you out.

BTW EISA stands for Extended Industry Standard Architecture - a bus standard used by the Big OEM System Builders to store your copy of the OS.

Why wont my computer recognize the size of the new drive as 100 GB as opposed to the old HD that was 60 GB? Where do I change the setting in XP Pro?

IMO you made a mistake replacing the 60gb drive with the new one. I suggest that you put the 60gb drive back in as the primary drive and add the 100gb as a secondary drive. Repartition and format the D: drive and then you can then make more room on the C: drive by moving a lot of your data to the D: drive.

You can do that only with desktops that have unused bays. Laptops don't have any. Using external USB enclosure as a substitute for internal secondary HD will not work.

I always first check the OP's Manufacturer/Model specification. The OP stated he has Dell Insp E1705 which is a laptop.
