Is there a way to edit the registry(add keys, delete keys, modify keys, etc.) in the recovery console? Or is there a bootdisk that allows you to do that?

Regedit will edit the Registry.
Start > Run > type regedit <OK>.
Use caution!

Aha, it just dawned on me. You probably want to edit the Registry without a running windows system.

I'm not sure if you can do that. It's something I would like to know also. I think I will look into that problem.

Off line Registry editing is possible

Typically Barts can be used

I tried it from the Recovery console and couldn't do it. Neither regedit or regedt32 will run from the recovery console.

It may be possible from a BART CD, but if you don't already have it made, there's a problem. I don't know if a BART CD is transportable from one PC to another.

Barts or Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows not to be confused with Ultimate Boot CD which is also good stuff.

You load hives to edit them.

Have yourself a read how "Fred Langa shows how a simple tweak turns XP's low-level Recovery Console into a complete, standalone mini-operating system--in effect, an XP DOS!" as it is a good read and may fit the bill.

It is a real simple tweak if you have access to the OS now.

Bryan

Some nice info Bryan, and pretty painless to institute - thanks

No problems yet, but it's good to 'be prepared'

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

I downloaded 'Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows" and created a CD. The utilities worked but it hung when trying to load XP.

Thanks for the Langa tip Bryan, I'm gonna try it.

Hey Bryco

Langa's article is very good read - now I can play more in the RC (a.k.a. DOS) :-) Thanks for sharing it with us.
