I have encountered a problem where trying to burn a 699mb image onto a 80 min 750 mb blank CD does not let me Easy Cd Creator 5 platinum tells me not enough space and Nero 6 has a default cut off at 650mb is there a way to over come these problems or do I have to buy 99 min blank Cd's?.
Thanking you in anticipation as always.
regards,
duncan

Why use either?
Just Right click on what you want to copy and select "Send To". Then select your CD-RW from the list.
XP has a built in burner that is faster and less complicated then either of those programs.

I have downloaded thelinux iso @ 699 mb.
I bought 99 mins blank cd's and my cdrw does not recognise them?.
Thanking you in anticipation.

dunkin,
Open nero and choose to burn "disk image or saved project", then browse for your downloaded iso file. You can't just "copy" an iso file to a cd.
And if I were in the mood for a debate, I would mention that I had nothing but bad luck, alot of anger, and dozens of lovely, shiny, useless, unusable cd's from using XP's piece of s**t software they dare to call "cd writing".
Of course, I'm not in the mood for a debate so I'll keep quiet...
besides, I wouldn't wanna upset anyone... : )

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want...

SullyD I have to agree totally with you as I have just had that experience and a small expense.
To make things worse I downloaded the german version of Linux [699mb]to see what it was like!!!.
Have had probs also with 750mb blank cd's showing up as a max of 650mb.
But what the hell it is always a learning process and why give up not in my genes.

Dunkin,
Since we're on the subject... you said you downloaded the "german" version of Linux. I'm not sure what you got. There are several versions ....(Fedora, Mandrake, etc), all of which are 3 cd's.
Do you know about Knoppix? Is that what you downloaded? It's a single bootable cd with a "portable" version of Linux which lets you try it without installing it.... the OS runs right off the cd. All you have to do is change the BIOS settings to boot from cd first.
I haven't had time to do it yet, but I'm interested in seeing how it works. If that's what you have and you're successful in burning your cd, could you post back and let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
SullyD

thanks guys...sinc ethe subject of Knoppix Linus came.

Hey, guys,
Can you guys enlighten me on the use of Linux? Can I use Knoppix if I have XP installed on my computer? I mean will not these two systems clash? Is there any real risk of losing data? What advantages, if any, does Knoppix (Linux) give me?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Tigroley

Hi Tigroley,
Welcome to our little "sidetrack" about Knoppix Linux. To answer your question... yes. You're supposed be able to use Knoppix as a second, temporary OS. You can also have a dual boot system with XP and a full version of Linux, such as Fedora.
What's the advantage of Linux? I'm not too familiar with it, but I recently got curious. The big deal is that it's open source... it's free!
What do you think? Would you like to see Micro$oft get run out of town? hee hee hee......
Check here to learn more about Knoppix.
and Duncan, I haven't tried it yet...haven't had the time. I'm waiting till I have time to really check it out. Meanwhile I'm loving the anticipation : )

Jmarch,
Here are the requirements for Knoppix:
Intel-compatible CPU (i486 or later),
20 MB of RAM for text mode, at least 96 MB for graphics mode with KDE (at least 128 MB of RAM is recommended to use the various office products),
bootable CD-ROM drive, or a boot floppy and standard CD-ROM (IDE/ATAPI or SCSI),
standard SVGA-compatible graphics card,
serial or PS/2 standard mouse or IMPS/2-compatible USB-mouse.
Maybe your FX5600 vid card just isn't compatible.SullyD
