Easy way to recover files after XP Reinstall

Specs: Windows XP
many a times it happens that i have to copy files and folders from c drive to other drive and format the c drive to reinstall the OS. i put the HD to other OS and access the c drive and copy the data. is there anu other command, way or software by which i can copy the files and folders from c drive to eg. d drive and then format c drive. please give solution in all cases if i have OS as win98, XP and Vista....Please its a problem which troubles me every time i go in the market for computer related problem....

Not exactly sure what you mean.

When you reinstall windows next time, create another
partition on your hard disk.

Go to My Documents, properties, & in the path change the C
to D,

So, in future save any files or documents to the D partition,
when you need to re-install windows, you just install to C, all
the files will be on D.

Obviously, if the hard disk crashes, you will lose the files. So
it might be just as well to save files to an external source.

Also consider imaging your C drive, to make installing
windows quicker.
